The American University in Vietnam (AUV) on Saturday kicked off its first academic year in the central city of Da Nang.
In the 2016-17 school year, the university provides degree courses in business administration, accounting, finance, marketing, hospitality management, multimedia, and IT.
More majors will be added in the following years, including medicine, pharmacy, dentistry, nursing, aviation, project management, and others.
Breaking ground in 2010, the AUV is the first American-style university in Vietnam, establishing relationships with the University of Missouri, Kansas City, campuses of California State University, the State University of New York and other top colleges and universities, according to the university’s website.
With the total investment of nearly VND3.2 trillion (US$143.5 million), the university covers 32 hectares and has modern facilities and faculty members with high credentials, Tran Nguyen Thy Binh, AUV chairperson, said.
Deputy Minister of Education and Training Pham Manh Hung said that the university is one of the first nonprofit foreign universities in Vietnam.
