Comedian Van Son, a household name among Vietnamese expats, has taken his entertainment company back home.
Son is set to hold his first show in Vietnam titled “The Love Story of my Homeland” at Saigon Exhibition and Convention Center in Ho Chi Minh City’s district 7 on Dec 21 to mark his homecoming and the 20th anniversary of his company.
Son’s partners include composer Duc Huy, singer Tuan Ngoc, and his cousin, director Charlie Nguyen, who has directed every Van Son comedy DVD. They will all continue working with him.
Charlie Nguyen has produced a few successful films in Vietnam such as “The Rebel”, but his “Bui doi Cho Lon” martial arts-action film was banned from screening in his home country due to its overly gory, violent content.
Apart from local singers, Van Son’s upcoming show will feature several celebrated overseas singers such as Khanh Ha, Y Lan and Linda Chu.
Charlie Nguyen said that he will create cinematic comedy skits for the show.
In recent years, a number of overseas Vietnamese artists, such as comedian Hoai Linh, have returned to work and live in Vietnam, adding fresh flavors to local showbiz.
