A group of local students have organized a rock festival in Ho Chi Minh City and is working on their next show in Hanoi on September 20 to share their passion for rock music with youths across the country.

The rock program, titled “Hardcore United,” is the brainchild of a group of students from local universities and an attempt to provide an opportunity to showcase real rockers in Vietnam. 

Tam An, who is quite experienced in public relations and event hosting, was voted as the group leader.

One of the project’s great inspirations is Le Van Vu Quoc, of the rock band Loser Generation from central Thua Thien- Hue Province’s Hue City.

Unable to find a place for his band to play in Hue, Quoc was very supportive of Tam An and her group’s plan to launch the “Hardcore United” program across the country.

After months of preparation, their first show in HCMC’s District 1 late last month was a huge success.

Their fiery performances captivated an audience of over 500, though the venue was only enough to seat 400 people. No one left before the show ended.

11 rock bands from Hue City, HCMC and Hanoi, several of which are known only in the underground world of rock due to a lack of venues, exploded on the stage with energy and talent.

Many audience members sent the group messages on Facebook, requesting that another show be held.

“Music is pervasive now, but much of it belongs to the commercial world. Meanwhile, our rock music needs like-minded audiences to share and relish in it,” said Cao Vinh, member of The Current Will Carry Us (TCWCU) rock band, which is set to play in the coming Hardcore United show.

Chanh Hiep, member of the band People I May Know (PIMK), which will also play at the show, shared that their biggest goal is for audiences to be immersed in the rock atmosphere and have a great time.

Tam An revealed that another driving force behind her participation in the show is her desire to raise funds for her charity group “Flying Whales.”

“I’ve yearned to bring our rock music to the stage, melt audiences’ hearts and engage them in helping needy people in some way or another. I also dream of producing albums of our shows every year to raise funds for Flying Whales,” An shared.

The group is now preparing for their September show in Hanoi, which has been enthusiastically embraced and promoted. 

Their show is set to take place at Hanoi Rock City (27/52 To Ngoc Van, Tay Ho District), with a seating capacity of 500 and premium sound and lighting conditions.

14 bands from across the country will perform at the show.
