Vietnam’s record artificial pine trees lit up for Christmas

Two man-made pine trees which measure around 40 meters in height are sparkling for Christmas in central and southern Vietnam.

One of them has been recognized as the country’s tallest artificial pine tree even though it is lower than the other.

The first tree is 41 meters tall, the height of a 10-storey building, and was built at Trai Gao Diocese in central Nghe An Province’s Nghi Loc District.

According to Nguyen Van Tri, head of My Yen Congregation, it took around a month to make preparations for the construction of the tree.

Thirty people worked day and night to erect the tree in three weeks, and it was not ready for show time until December 21.

The tree, which is 13 meters wide at its base, features 12 layers in a pyramid shape.

Wrapped around a sturdy steel frame are more than five tons of iron, 15,000 plastic pine leaves, 2,000 twinkling lights, and 500 decorative bulbs.

Its base is adorned with hundreds of plastic grass sheets, flamboyant flowers, and Santa Claus riding on his reindeer-pulled sleigh.

The tree, which will sparkle at night for around 10 days to celebrate Christmas and the New Year, is the Trai Gao Diocese’s largest so far, Tri added.

In a similar vein, another pine tree has also been illuminated for the big holiday season since Saturday last week, according to the Vietnam News Agency.

The 36-meter tall tree, which earned a record as the country’s tallest Christmas tree from the Vietnam Record Association on December 20, was erected at Thanh Le Park in southern Binh Duong Province.

The tree is embellished with more than 200,000 twinkling lights and a lighting system for special effects.

Over 300 men dressed as Santa Claus will gather around the tree on Christmas night and expect to earn a record for the country’s largest crowd of Father Christmases.

The event, held for the first time in the province, will also feature a fair and exhibition with 200 stalls offering a wide variety of consumer goods.
