Fortissimo Films, one of the world’s leading film sales organizations, has inked a deal on world rights to a film made by a well-loved expat Vietnamese director.

The Amsterdam-based company has acquired worldwide rights outside Vietnam to “Hoa Vang Tren Co Xanh” (Yellow Flowers on the Green Grass), a drama directed by Vietnamese-American filmmaker Victor Vu, according to several international movie websites, including Screendaily.

The deal was signed by Fortissimo's chairman, Michael J. Werner, and the film’s executive producer.

A source of Tuoi Tre (Youth) Newspaper also confirmed the information.

Fortissimo is planning a holiday release for the film at the end of the year, Screendaily said.

The film is based on a best-selling novel titled “Toi Thay Hoa Vang Tren Co Xanh” (I See Yellow Flowers upon the Green Grass) by Nguyen Nhat Anh, a respected Vietnamese author of children’s stories.

The novel won an ASEAN literature prize in 2010.

Its film adaptation is produced by Vietnam’s Galaxy Media & Entertainment on state subsidies.

Set in a poor village in central Vietnam during the mid-1980s, “Hoa Vang Tren Co Xanh,” which is now in post-production, revolves around two young brothers who bond affectionately and share everything, but also vie for the attention of the same girl.

Fortissimo chairman Werner pinned high hopes on the film, which he believes will surely capture the hearts and minds of cinema-goers around the globe, Screendaily reported.

The Dutch company will bring “Hoa Vang Tren Co Xanh” to a film fair in the framework of the 2015 Cannes International Film Festival, which is poised to run from Wednesday next week to May 24.  Victor Vu, the film’s director, is one of the country’s most commercially successful filmmakers, with his name associated with such thrillers and comedy romances as “Qua Tim Mau” (Vengeful Heart), “Co Dau Dai Chien” (Battle of the Brides), and “Bi Mat Tham Do” (Scandal) and its sequel.

A film director and screenwriter, Vu is widely known for covering a wide range of film genres and seamlessly shifting between horror, action, comedy, thriller, and romance.

He is one of the most prolific filmmakers in Vietnam today and was a new element to the stagnant Vietnamese film industry back in the early 2000s.

Fortissimo Films is one of the world's top international film, television, and video sales organizations specializing in the production, presentation, promotion, and distribution of award-winning and innovative feature films, its website said.

Apart from its headquarters in Amsterdam, the company also has offices in Hong Kong, London, and Beijing.
