A Vietnamese beauty has bagged two gold medals as Miss Photogenic and Best Earth Warrior in the Miss Earth 2017 contest in the Philippines.

The results were announced in Manila on Monday.

Le Thi Ha Thu was crowned runner-up of Miss Ocean Vietnam in 2014 and then chosen to represent Vietnam at Miss Earth 2017.

She is already a famous model in Vietnam and owns a restaurant in Ho Chi Minh City.

Thu claimed the Miss Photogenic prize in the Philippines thanks to strong support from fans with over 40,000 likes and more than a million shares on Facebook.

The winners were decided based on the number of likes and shares they received on social media.

According to Miss Earth’s website, each like gained one point and each share five points. The contestant with the highest number of points won.

Last year’s Vietnamese representative at Miss Earth 2016, Nam Em, also won the gold medal as Miss Photogenic.

Another unexpected medal Thu received on the night was Best Earth Warrior.

The contestants were evaluated on the number of environmentally friendly acts they did during the course of Miss Earth 2017. Thu once again did significantly well enough to win this category of the competition.

Thanks to these two gold medals, the Vietnamese representative has now owned a total of five medals during the 2017 competition with three golds and two bronzes, the best any Vietnamese representative has ever done at Miss Earth.

The other three were a gold in Swimwear, a bronze for Talent, and another bronze in the Evening Gown category.

Thu also competed in the Traditional Gown category and despite not being listed as one of the top three finalists, she still managed to represent herself as a strong, confident Vietnamese woman in her Flower Warrior outfit.

After the awards night on October 30, Thu will prepare herself for the finals, which will be held in the Philippines on November 4.

Miss Earth is an environmentally focused beauty competition promoting global environmental awareness.

This is the 17th year the competition has been held.

Vietnamese representatives began competing in 2003.

The winner of Miss Earth will serve as an ambassador for environmental protection campaigns worldwide.
