This year’s Ho Chi Minh City Ao Dai Festival was kick-started on Saturday evening and will last until July 2 with a variety of activities and events to celebrate the country’s traditional gown.

The festival is organized at Nguyen Hue Pedestrian Street in District 1 on the occasion of the 44th anniversary of the city changing its name from Saigon-Gia Dinh to Ho Chi Minh (July 2, 1976).

The opening event on Saturday evening included various performances in different genres, namely folk music, electronic dance music, flashmob dance, martial arts, and fashion shows.

The Ho Chi Minh City Ao Dai Festival, which has been held every year since 2014, is hoped to become a hallmark of the southern metropolis and contribute to the development of a civilized and modern city, said Le Thanh Liem, vice-chairman of the municipal People’s Committee.
