With a view to further boost bilateral economic, trade and investment ties with Cambodia, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung will pay a three-day visit to the country starting January 12.

>> Cambodia shows gratitude to VN for win over genocidal regime>> VN, Cambodia hail ASEAN’s common stance on East Sea During the past years, the relations between Vietnam and Cambodia have continuously developed, evidenced by Vietnam visits from King Norodom Sihamoni in September 2012 and Chairman of the National Assembly Heng Samrin in July 2012, and Cambodia visits by Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong in December 2011 and Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung in February 2013.

On December 26-28, 2013, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen made a visit to Vietnam, and earlier this month, National Assembly Chairman Hen Samrin visited Vietnam and attended the celebration of the 35th anniversary of Cambodia and Vietnam’s joint victory over the genocidal Khmer Rouge regime (January 7). Without the great sacrifice by Vietnamese soldiers, the Cambodian nation would not have had an opportunity to win over the Khmer Rouge genocidal regime, Chairman Heng Samrin said. Regarding trade cooperation, the two countries expect to increase two-way trade to US$5 billion by 2015. In the first 10 months of 2013, the trade increased by 8 percent year-on-year to $2.94 billion. Vietnamese investors are developing 126 projects worth over $3 billion in Cambodia, focusing on industrial cultivation, mining, oil and gas, electricity, telecommunications, finance and banking. Both countries have also boosted cooperation in other fields including tourism, telecommunications, aviation, banking, education, health care, and agriculture. In addition, the two countries have made good performance in demarcation and planting of border markers. They have so far pinpointed 239 out of the 314 places to plant markers, built 279 out of the 371 markers and delimited 850 out of the 1,137km of borderline.

The two countries have pledged to keep up with this work for a border of peace, friendship, stability and development.
