Two U.S. naval ships will arrive at Tien Sa Port in the central Vietnamese city of Da Nang on April 6 for a five-day working visit as an annual activity, according to the U.S. Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City. The visit of the ships, the Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Fitzgerald (DDG 62) and the littoral combat ship USS Fort Worth (LCS-3), is part of the 6th annual Naval Engagement Activity (NEA) between Vietnam and the U.S., the consulate general said. The program will include various exchange sessions for naval officers and staff of both sides in different areas, including military medicine skills, search and rescue activities, and maritime security. The two country’s naval forces will join a session for practicing the Code for Unplanned Encounters at Sea (CUES), which was adopted at the 2014 Western Pacific Naval Symposium held in Beijing.  The program will also include seminars on sea laws, community-serving activities, music concerts, and sports. It is part of a series of activities to celebrate 20 years of the normalization of diplomatic ties between the two countries, the consulate general said. On April 7, 2014, the guided missile destroyer USS John S. McCain and the rescue and salvage ship USNS Safeguard also arrived at Tien Sa Port for a six-day visit under the 5th NEA. Hanoi and Washington normalized their diplomatic relations in 1995, twenty years after the end of the war.
