The first office building at Da Nang Software Park No. 2, with an area of 21,000 square meters, in Da Nang City, central Vietnam has been overbooked as the park was opened on Thursday.

The Da Nang People’s Committee held a ceremony on Thursday to announce the expansion and opening of Da Nang Software Park No. 2, located on Nhu Nguyet Street in Thuan Phuoc Ward, Hai Chau District.

The park, which began construction in 2020 with an investment of US$39 million, is the fourth centralized information technology zone (CIZ) in Da Nang, positioning the tech industry as a key driver for the city’s rapid and sustainable growth.

The project includes the ICT1, ICT2, and ICT buildings, covering a total land area of 28,573 square meters and a construction floor area of over 92,000 square meters.

It is expected to attract 6,000 employees.

On Thursday, the eight-story ICT1 building, with a total construction area of over 39,000 square meters and an exploitation area of 21,000 square meters was officially opened.

The building will prioritize strategic partners, investors, small businesses, and startups in the semiconductor and artificial intelligence (AI) industries.

Chairman of the Da Nang People’s Committee, Le Trung Chinh, noted that 30 IT businesses had already registered for lots at the new software park, with demand totaling around 25,000 square meters, surpassing the available rental space in the ICT1 building.

“The park is a cornerstone in the city’s Master Plan for 2030, helping Da Nang evolve into a ‘smart’ urban center and integrate into the broader network of smart cities in Asia,” Chinh stated.

He also highlighted the city’s rapid IT industry growth, with four CIZs built in just 15 years.

Information technology now contributes 20.69 percent to the city’s gross regional domestic product (GRDP), a figure expected to rise to 35-40 percent by 2030.

“The first software park has hosted 66 IT businesses, employing over 2,000 people and generating $58 million in revenue,” Chinh added.

During the ceremony, Da Nang authorities signed Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with strategic partners, including Marvell Da Nang, a branch of the U.S. semiconductor company Marvell Technology Inc., Vietnamese tech giant FPT, and Vietnamese multi-sector investor Sovico Group.

Currently, Da Nang is home to four CIZs - Da Nang Software Park, Da Nang IT Park, FPT Complex, and Software Park No. 2 - employing 53,000 people across various digital industries, according to the Vietnam News Agency

The city is leading the country in digitalization, with an average of 2.3 digital businesses per 1,000 residents.
