Party General Secretary of Vietnam To Lam on Tuesday afternoon warmly received Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin in Hanoi during his official visit to Vietnam.

The two-day visit coincides with the 75th anniversary of Vietnam-Russia diplomatic ties and marks PM Mishustin’s first visit to Vietnam as head of the Russian government.

The Vietnamese Party chief praised the visit’s significance, recognizing its importance in advancing cooperation agreed upon during Russian President Vladimir Putin’s state visit to Vietnam in June last year.

Lam conveyed his appreciation for the valuable support and assistance of the people of the former Soviet Union and Russia today during Vietnam’s struggles for independence and its ongoing development.

He reaffirmed Vietnam’s commitment to strengthening its comprehensive strategic partnership with Russia across various fields in the years to come, emphasizing Vietnam’s view of Russia as one of the top partners in its foreign policy.

PM Mishustin expressed gratitude for the warm reception and relayed President Putin's invitation for To Lam to attend the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War and to visit Russia in 2025.

He lauded Vietnam’s socio-economic achievements and voiced confidence in its future progress under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam.

PM Mishustin also shared the outcomes of his same-day meeting with his Vietnamese counterpart Pham Minh Chinh, spotlighting Vietnam’s efforts to resolve challenges and enhance bilateral cooperation in all fields.

The Russian government leader acknowledged the complexities of the global and regional landscapes but reaffirmed Russia’s appreciation for Vietnam’s steadfast friendship.

He underlined Vietnam’s priority status in Russia’s Asia-Pacific policy, particularly in Southeast Asia, and Russia’s commitment to expanding the comprehensive strategic partnership across all sectors.

Both leaders shared updates on their countries and outlined major directions for furthering the Vietnam-Russia comprehensive strategic partnership.
