The Vietnamese men’s football team secured seven of 11 spots in the 2024 ASEAN Championship’s best squad, as voted by fans.
The 2024 ASEAN Championship organizing committee announced the best XI of the tournament on Thursday afternoon.
Notably, Vietnam dominated with seven players named to the dream team.
Meanwhile, Thailand had two players on the team and the Philippines had one.
The lineup is arranged in a 4-4-2 formation, with Nguyen Dinh Trieu of Vietnam in goal.
Dinh Trieu was named Best Goalkeeper of the tournament.
The four-man defense includes Vietnam’s Bui Tien Dung and Bui Hoang Viet Anh, alongside Thailand’s Pansa Hemviboon, who scored an own goal in the second leg of the final, leading to his team’s loss to Vietnam, and Nicholas Mickelson.
In midfield, the absence of Nguyen Hoang Duc and Doan Ngoc Tan surprised many fans as both players were pivotal in Vietnam’s midfield during the tournament.
Instead, Nguyen Quang Hai and Nguyen Hai Long made the cut, along with Kyoga Nakamura from Singapore and Sandro Reyes from the Philippines.

Up front, Nguyen Xuan Son and Nguyen Tien Linh of Vietnam were the top attackers in the lineup.
Both contributed 11 goals, with Xuan Son winning the tournament’s Top Goal Scorer award with seven goals.
However, Tien Linh’s inclusion sparked controversy, with Thai media suggesting Suphanat Mueanta was more deserving, having scored four goals and providing five assists, compared to Tien Linh’s four goals and two assists.
Thai outlets also noted that Mueanta had more playing time than Tien Linh.
The best XI of the 2024 ASEAN Championship, as presented by the organizers, is merely for reference, as it is the result of fan voting.
The tournament, running from December 8, 2024 to January 5, concluded with a well-earned victory for Vietnam, who achieved seven wins and one draw, defeating Thailand in both legs of the finale to clinch the trophy.
