Singaporean president discusses bilateral cooperation with Vietnamese leaders

Singaporean President Halimah Yacob met with Vietnamese leaders in Hanoi on Monday afternoon to discuss the relationship between the two countries, as part of her state visit to Vietnam from Sunday to Thursday.

During the meeting with Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, President Yacob praised Vietnam’s achievements, adding that the country has had drastic changes compared to her previous visit 30 years ago.

The Singaporean President congratulated Vietnam on its successes in socio-economic development and post-pandemic recovery.

General Secretary Trong affirmed that Vietnam attaches great importance to its strategic partnership with Singapore and suggested that the two countries effectively promote the great potential of cooperation by increasing the exchange of visits and meetings at all levels.

He assigned relevant Vietnamese agencies to work closely with their Singaporean counterparts to realize agreements reached during the Singaporean president's visit, for the benefit of the people of the two countries.

During the meeting between President Yacob and Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, both sides agreed to exchange high-level delegations on the occasion of the 50th of diplomatic relations in 2023, including the mutual visit of the two countries' prime ministers.

PM Chinh suggested the two countries work to develop a Digital Economy - Green Economy Partnership.

The two leaders expressed their delight at the strong and dynamic development of bilateral cooperation, especially in economic matters.

The two sides will expand economic cooperation and increase investment, and promote collaboration in other important fields.

They praised the effectiveness of the Vietnam-Singapore Industrial Park (VSIP) model in all three regions of Vietnam, saying it has made an important contribution to local socio-economic development.

In his conversation with President Yacob, National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue expressed his wish to join hands with Singapore in sharing experience in legislation and law enforcement related to urbanization and industrialization.

The NA chairman suggested the Vietnamese and Singaporean governments and legislatures intensify cooperation at multilateral forums and in affirming ASEAN’s centrality and stance on regional and global issues, including the East Vietnam Sea situation.

President Yacob expressed her hope that the Vietnamese and Singaporean legislatures will continue their cooperation and will make more contributions to the development of both nations.
