Vietnamese State President Nguyen Xuan Phuc’s ongoing visit to Indonesia is considered a milestone in strengthening the strategic partnership between both countries.

President Phuc arrived at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Jakarta on Wednesday afternoon, commencing his three-day state visit to Indonesia.

Indonesia is the only member of ASEAN in the Group of Twenty (G20), while Vietnam's position is increasingly enhanced regionally and globally.

Therefore, the visit is expected to bring many substantive results in many fields.

The two countries have many similar interests and the convergence of strategic interests, Vietnamese Ambassador to Indonesia Ta Van Thong previously said.

In an interview with Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper, Calvin Khoe, co-director of FPCI Research & Analysis, a prestigious political research and analysis center in Indonesia, stated that the visit is a milestone in strengthening the strategic partnership between Vietnam and Indonesia.

The two countries’ presidents are expected to announce a joint statement about the update of an action plan, as well as new ideas for cooperation in fields such as climate change and the digital economy.

This meeting is a very good opportunity for the leaders to discuss solutions to regional and global issues, including the crisis in Myanmar, the East Vietnam Sea situation, and the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

The cooperation relationship between Vietnam and Indonesia is a good combination of Vietnam's rapid growth and Indonesia’s interest in expanding the market.

Trade relations between both nations are very resilient, Khoe stated, adding that bilateral trade grew impressively despite the fact that both sides suffered heavy losses during more than two years of the COVID-19 pandemic.

In 2021, trade turnover reached US$11.5 billion when the pandemic was still complicated, exceeding the target of $10 billion committed by the two countries.

There will be a bright future ahead for the two sides to reach their target of $15 billion by 2028.

Vietnam has attracted billions of dollars of foreign investment over the years, and this is also something that Indonesia should learn from as the country is striving to become the world's fourth-largest economy.

In terms of investment, Vietnam is an attractive destination for Indonesian companies, while the Vietnamese digital economy is growing positively.

Vietnam is one of the ASEAN countries that handle relations with China and the U.S. very well.

The country has a unique strategic approach to balancing relations with these two powers.

Therefore, Vietnam's experience in balancing ties with the U.S. and China will also help Indonesia effectively deal with power politics in the region.
