Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh will sit in on the 42nd ASEAN Summit in Labuan Bajo, Indonesia from May 9 to 11 at the invitation of Indonesian President Joko Widodo, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on Friday.
The summit will feature the participation of Timor Lester’s President Taur Matan Ruak for the first time.
At the summit, the leaders of the Southeast Asian countries will enter into discussions to seek effective solutions to back the regional growth amid ongoing global uncertainties.
Besides, the ASEAN leaders will table the development of the ASEAN community, and regional and international issues.
In addition, the summit will comprise talks between the ASEAN leaders with the representatives of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly, the ASEAN Business Advisory Council, the High-Level Task Force on the ASEAN Community’s Post-2025 Vision.
The Vietnamese prime minister is set to deliver a speech at the 42nd summit.
He will underline Vietnam’s standpoint of the region’s priorities, the cooperation between the ASEAN countries and partners, and regional and international challenges.
On this occasion, the Vietnamese government leader will meet with the leaders of other nations to bolster bilateral ties.
At the summit, many agreements on politics-security, economy and culture-society will be passed.
Southeast Asia hosts two summits each year
The ASEAN Summit and the Partner Summit are hosted each year by the chair of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
The ASEAN members take turn holding the post once a year.
Since 2009, the chair of ASEAN has organized the two summits to address relevant issues.
