Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen said that he was touched by the support from the sheer number of Vietnamese people attending the 2023 Southeast Asian (SEA) Games held in Cambodia.

He expressed his gratitude to Vietnamese audiences for their participation in the SEA Games at a meeting with his Vietnamese counterpart Pham Minh Chinh in Indonesia on Tuesday, as part of their visit to this country for the ongoing 42nd ASEAN Summit.

The Cambodian leader affirmed that the crowds of Vietnamese supporters at the SEA Games would contribute to the success of the sports event.

He also underlined that Cambodia always attaches great significance to its ties with Vietnam, thanking Vietnam for sending top officials to the SEA Games.

Prime Minister Chinh congratulated Cambodia on its successful opening ceremony of the 32nd SEA Games. 

The event is expected to elevate Cambodia’s image and reputation in the coming time, the top Vietnamese official added.

Prime Minister Chinh hoped that Cambodia would successfully organize the seventh National Assembly Election in July.

At the meeting, the two leaders entered into discussions about bilateral trade, political and economic ties, affirming that the two countries will join hands to build an independent, united, and prosperous ASEAN community.

Prime Minister Chinh also suggested his Cambodian counterpart Hun Sen should make another visit to Vietnam.

Cambodia held the opening ceremony of the 32nd SEA Games on May 5, with the participation of Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang.

Vietnam, Indonesia eye deeper two-way trade, maritime relations

Vietnam expected to boost its strategic partnership with Indonesia, heard a meeting between Prime Minister Chinh with Indonesian President Joko Widodo on Tuesday afternoon.

The Vietnamese government leader also wanted bilateral trade to reach VND350.5 trillion (US$15 billion) by 2028.

Besides, the Vietnamese prime minister proposed Indonesia create more favorable conditions for Vietnamese goods to access the Indonesian market.

The Vietnamese leader also called on Indonesia to strengthen maritime cooperation with Vietnam by launching a hotline to support fishermen and sharing information on maritime requirements and regulations.

Indonesian President Widodo appreciated and supported the Vietnamese prime minister’s proposals, stressing that Indonesia also takes heed of its relationship with Vietnam.

The Indonesian leader agreed to cement the partnership with Vietnam in energy transition, digitalization, and infrastructure development.

On this occasion, the top Vietnamese official also invited Widodo to Vietnam.
