Vietnam sent congratulations to Cambodia on Tuesday for successfully organizing parliamentary elections for the seventh term on Sunday.
Vietnam always wishes its neighbor peace, stability, and prosperity, Pham Thu Hang, spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, told reporters on Tuesday.
Over the past few years, the Vietnam-Cambodia friendship and partnership have flourished to the benefit of the two peoples, peace, and regional stability, Hang underlined.
“Vietnam congratulates Cambodia on successful parliamentary elections for the seventh term,” the ministry’s spokesperson stressed.
Over 8.2 million people voted in the elections, accounting for 84.6 percent of the total 9.71 million, according to the National Election Committee of Cambodia.
The turnout was higher than the two previous elections in Cambodia.
More than 89,500 local election observers and 586 foreign ones participated in the election observation process.
Among them, some came from the International Conference of Asian Political Parties (ICAPP).
Speaking at a press briefing on Monday, ICAPP affirmed that the seventh-term parliamentary elections were conducted in a transparent, fair, free, democratic, and peaceful manner.

The China NGO Network for International Exchanges stressed the elections were peaceful, fair, and transparent, and adhered to international standards of fairness, peacefulness, transparency, and inclusiveness.
Prime Minister Hun Sen’s Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) announced the victory after the elections.
Sok Eysan, spokesperson of the CPP, said that the party earned some 80 percent of support from voters.
Given the results, the CPP is expected to win 96 percent of the total 125 parliamentary seats.
The prime minister’s son, Hun Manet, is forecast to get one seat.
Hun Manet, a future candidate for the Cambodian prime minister, sent a thank-you letter to voters on Monday, pledging to continue serving the people and the country.
The results of the elections will be announced between August 9 and September 4.
