Vietnam’s top shooting duo Trinh Thu Vinh and Pham Quang Huy won the gold medal in the 10m air pistol mixed team event at the Asian Rifle/Pistol Cup 2025 Bangkok on Wednesday.
Based on their qualifying round results, the Vietnamese shooting duo, ranked first, faced off against the second-ranked Indonesian pair, Darmoyo Arista Perdana Putri and Prabowa Muhamad Iqbal Raia, for the gold medal.
In the early relays, the Indonesian duo took the lead.
However, Vinh and Huy regained their composure and turned the match around, winning the final 17-13.
This is the second time the top Vietnamese shooting duo has won the Asian championship, achieving the feat in the same category at the same tournament in 2024 in Jakarta, Indonesia.
Vinh, Huy, and their teammates will next compete in the individual 10m air pistol event later on Wednesday afternoon and Thursday morning.
The Asian Rifle/Pistol Cup 2025 Bangkok is being held from February 9 to 22 in Thailand, with 319 athletes from 24 countries and territories.
Notably, two powerful teams, China and India, are absent from the competition.
The Vietnamese shooting team is participating with 18 shooters in the tournament, which marks their first international competition of 2025.
Key international events this year include the 16th Asian Shooting Championship in Kazakhstan in August, the ISSF World Championship Rifle/Pistol in Egypt in November, and the 33rd Southeast Asian Games in Thailand in December.
