Vietnam's Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong held high-level phone talks with President of the Cambodian People's Party and Prime Minister Hun Sen on Saturday.

During the phone talks, Hun Sen briefed Party General Secretary Trong on the current situation of Cambodia and the success of its parliamentary elections for the seventh term.

General elections were held in Cambodia on July 23 to elect members of the lawmaking National Assembly.

The Cambodian People's Party claimed a landslide victory, winning 120 of the 125 seats.

Hun Sen hailed Vietnam's significant and comprehensive achievements, adding that Vietnam will obtain new impressive achievements under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam, led by General Secretary Trong. 

PM Hun Sen also thanked the Vietnamese Party chief for sending congratulations to Cambodia for successfully organizing parliamentary elections, and the Party, state, and people of Vietnam for their great support for the Cambodian People's Party, state, and people.

He affirmed that leaders of the Cambodian People's Party, National Assembly, and government will continue maintaining and strengthening the traditional relations between the two parties, states, and peoples.

Meanwhile, Vietnamese Party General Secretary Trong once again congratulated Cambodia on the successful organization of parliamentary elections and the Cambodian People's Party over its victory in the elections, proving the position and the role of the party under the leadership of Hun Sen as well as Cambodian people's trust in and strong support for the Cambodian People's Party.

He applauded the great achievements that Cambodia has gained under the leadership of the Cambodian People's Party and expressed his belief that the neighbor will achieve more enormous success.

The Party chief reiterated that Vietnam strongly supports Cambodia’s development under the leadership of the Cambodian People's Party and the new government.

He spoke highly of Hun Sen’s and leaders of the Cambodian People's Party’s contributions to the ties between the two countries.

The two leaders shared their happiness at the good Vietnam-Cambodia partnership which has benefited people of both countries.

They emphasized the importance of the solidarity and mutual support of the two sides, which are the greatest source of strength for their national protection and development at present and in the future.

The two sides stressed that they will jointly maintain and nurture the two countries’ good bilateral relations and promote cooperation in all sectors.
