The leaders of Vietnam’s state, government, and lawmaking National Assembly (NA) sent condolences to their Iranian counterparts on Monday over a helicopter crash that occurred on Sunday, killing Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, and some other top officials.
Acting State President Vo Thi Anh Xuan and Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh extended condolences to Acting President of Iran Mohammad Mokhber after the tragedy, according to the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Newly-elected NA Chairman Tran Thanh Man sent a message of condolences to Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf over the loss of two of Iran’s most influential political figures on the same day.
Minister of Foreign Affair Bui Thanh Son also conveyed his condolences to Iran’s Acting Foreign Minister Ali Bagheri Kani.
Iranian state media said the helicopter carrying the president "made a hard landing" in bad weather conditions on Sunday afternoon.
Rescue teams approached the crash scene and found the wreckage of the helicopter early on Monday.
Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei on Monday announced five days of public mourning for President Ebrahim Raisi following his death in the helicopter crash and confirmed First Vice President Mohammad Mokhber as interim head of the country's executive branch, reported Reuters.
Born in 1960, late President Raisi served as a senior judiciary official for many years.
In 2021, he was elected as Iran's eighth president.
