Vietnam is willing to join international efforts in promoting dialogue and seeking peaceful solutions to end the Russia-Ukraine conflict soon, spokesperson for the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs Pham Thu Hang said on Thursday.
After a brief meeting between Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Davos, Switzerland last month, there has been information that Vietnam is ready to serve as a venue for the conflict mediation.
In response to a question about the issue, Hang affirmed that Vietnam supports the international community's mediation efforts aimed at finding lasting peaceful solutions to the conflict, ensuring the involvement of all relevant parties in accordance with international law and the United Nations Charter.
As a responsible member of the international community, Vietnam hosted the second U.S.-North Korea summit in 2019, which attracted international attention and high praise.
During the meeting with President Zelensky, PM Chinh reiterated Vietnam’s balanced and consistent stance on the Russia-Ukraine conflict, advocating for peaceful resolutions based on international law and the United Nations Charter.
He emphasized respect for sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity, rejecting the threat or use of force while considering the legitimate interests of all parties.
The two leaders underscored the importance of Vietnam-Ukraine ties, emphasizing traditional friendship, partnership, and comprehensive cooperation.
Both sides expressed their desire to maintain and enhance bilateral collaboration, including delegation exchanges at various levels.
They discussed measures to restore and boost trade exchanges and agreed to resume the Vietnam-Ukraine Intergovernmental Committee for Economic and Trade Cooperation to sustain growth momentum.
