President of Guinea-Bissau Umaro Sissoco Embaló and his spouse will visit Vietnam from Thursday through Sunday, the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on Tuesday.
The visit, made at the invitation of Vietnam’s Party chief and State President To Lam and his spouse, comes two years after the two nations celebrated the 50th anniversary of their diplomatic ties in 2023.
This marks President Embaló's first visit to Vietnam since assuming his post in February 2020.
During his stay in Vietnam, President Embaló will hold talks with Party General Secretary and President Lam, and meet with other key Vietnamese officials.
Vietnam and Guinea-Bissau established bilateral diplomatic relations on September 30, 1973.
Guinea-Bissau, a West African country, spans over 36,000 square kilometers and has a population of more than two million people.
This past July, Nancy Raisa Cardoso, Secretary of State for International Cooperation of Guinea-Bissau, visited Vietnam to attend the state funeral of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, who passed away at 1:38 pm on July 19 in Hanoi at the age of 80.
During her talks with the Secretary of State of Guinea-Bissau, Vietnamese Deputy Foreign Minister Nguyen Minh Hang affirmed Vietnam's readiness to assist Guinea-Bissau in agricultural development through bilateral or trilateral cooperation projects, with the goal of helping Guinea-Bissau ensure food security and achieve self-sufficiency.
Both sides agreed to enhance the exchange of information, explore cooperation opportunities, and facilitate business connections between the two countries in order to bolster economic and trade cooperation.
They also pledged to continue promoting key trade items such as cashew nuts and explore potential areas like agricultural products and textiles.
