Executive Vice President of Venezuela Delcy Rodriguez Gomez met with key Vietnamese leaders, including Party General Secretary To Lam, State President Luong Cuong, and Vice State President Vo Thi Anh Xuan, during her official visit to the Southeast Asian nation from Monday through Wednesday.

On Tuesday afternoon, Party General Secretary To Lam hosted a reception for Executive Vice President Delcy Rodriguez Gomez, a member of the Political Bureau of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV) in Hanoi.

Lam expressed Vietnam’s deep appreciation for the solidarity and support shown by the Venezuelan people during Vietnam’s past struggle for national liberation and reunification, as well as the current support of nation-building and defense.

He commended Venezuela’s recent achievements and acknowledged the prominent role of PSUV and the ruling coalition in the country, hoping that this visit ushers in a new phase of progress.

Calling on both sides to facilitate cooperation plans, especially in sectors of mutual strength and demand, Lam wished to continue the mutual support in multilateral forums and organizations for the benefit of both nations for global peace, cooperation, and development.

The Venezuelan official expressed her satisfaction with the positive developments in the Vietnam - Venezuela bilateral relations and highlighted the need for a comprehensive plan to enhance ties specific to energy, agriculture, and tourism.

She also emphasized strengthening relations between the two parties.

Executive Vice President Rodriguez Gomez expressed her wish for Party General Secretary Lam to visit Venezuela, to which he graciously accepted and assigned relevant agencies to begin arrangements.

On the same day, State President Luong Cuong received the Venezuelan leader in Hanoi, according to the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Rodriguez Gomez extended President Nicolas Maduro’s greetings and congratulations on Cuong’s election as State President.

She expressed gratitude for Vietnam’s support and partnership during Venezuela’s challenging economic and social periods, remarking that the government and people of Venezuela regard Vietnam’s economic reform achievements as a model that provides valuable insights.

She emphasized Venezuela’s commitment to prioritizing its ties with Vietnam as part of its foreign policy, particularly in Asia.

Cuong suggested Vietnam and Venezuela enhance exchanges and high-level contacts to boost bilateral cooperation and expand collaboration into fields where both nations have strong capabilities.

He also stressed the importance of mutual support in international forums and organizations to uphold each nation’s legitimate interests. 

The State President highlighted the need to educate younger generations to preserve and deepen the friendship between the two nations.

Cuong and Rodriguez Gomez agreed to deepen cooperation, particularly in agriculture, energy, and telecommunications. 

Both sides are committed to working through mechanisms such as political consultations to overcome challenges in bilateral cooperation, and to build a long-term, sustainable partnership between Vietnam and Venezuela in the years to come.

Cuong and Lam have both conveyed an invitation to President Nicolas Maduro to pay an official visit to Vietnam.

Prior to her meetings with Party leader To Lam and President Cuong, Vice President Rodriguez Gomez spoke with Vice State President Vo Thi Anh Xuan Tuesday morning in Hanoi.

Both leaders agreed on measures to deepen multifaceted cooperation between the two countries focusing on politics, diplomacy, trade, investment, agriculture, energy, culture, and people-to-people exchange.

They have outlined steps to pursue collaborations in promising fields like telecommunications and infrastructure.

Both countries are committed to holding the 4th meeting of the Vietnam - Venezuela Intergovernmental Cooperation Committee and the 10th deputy foreign minister-level political consultation.

They also agreed to review and advance cooperation agreements, establishing a solid legal foundation for diverse collaboration and maintaining support for each other in international organizations and multilateral forums.

While discussing shared global and regional issues of shared concern, the leaders agreed that international disagreements and disputes should be resolved peacefully, in accordance with international law and the United Nations Charter.
