-- Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son held talks with Thai Minister of Foreign Affairs Maris Sangiampongsa in Hanoi on Monday.

-- Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son and Thai Foreign Minister Maris Sangiampongsa visited the Thang Long Imperial Citadel, a world cultural heritage site in Hanoi, on Monday afternoon, as part of the latter’s official visit to Vietnam through Tuesday.

-- Police in Tien Giang Province, southern Vietnam said on Monday that they had fined a passenger bus driver VND5.7 million (US$223.7) and deducted two points from his driver's license for overtaking other vehicles recklessly, which nearly caused an accident involving three people late last week.

-- Border guards at Ha Tien International Border Gate in southern Kien Giang Province on Monday cooperated with local authorities to receive 40 Vietnamese citizens who were deported by Cambodia. These individuals had gone to Cambodia for work but violated Cambodian immigration, labor, and residence regulations, the Border Guard Command in Kien Giang reported the same day.

-- Jeff Grinspoon and Jon Thomas Foley, two millionaires in the fields of finance and real estate from the U.S., recently embarked on a journey exploring Vietnam from north to south, experiencing the country like true locals.

-- About 1,000 experts and leaders from global tech giants, such as Google, DeepMind, IBM, Intel, TSMC, Samsung, MediaTek, Tokyo Electron, Panasonic, Qorvo, and Marvell, will come to Vietnam in mid-March to discuss the development of artificial intelligence and semiconductors, Vu Quoc Huy, director of the Vietnam National Innovation Center, said on Monday.

-- Despite the high coffee prices, many farmers in Vietnam’s Central Highlands are still holding onto their stock and waiting rather than locking in profits.

-- A delegation from Seongdong District in Seoul, South Korea visited Tuy Hoa City of Phu Yen Province, south-central Vietnam to strengthen the friendship between the two sides and open up opportunities for tuna exports to the South Korean market.

World News

-- “President Donald Trump administration said on Sunday it was placing all personnel at the foreign assistance agency USAID, except leaders and critical staff, on paid administrative leave and eliminating 1,600 positions in the United States,” Reuters reported.

-- “Apple said on Monday it would spend $500 billion in U.S. investments in the next four years that will include a giant factory in Texas for artificial intelligence servers and add about 20,000 research and development jobs across the country in that time,” according to Reuters.
