Vietnam and Australia jointly held an experience sharing session in Hanoi on Friday on the theme of women, peace, and security in United Nations peacekeeping operations.
The event was co-chaired by Colonel Nguyen Nhu Canh, deputy head of the Vietnam Department of Peacekeeping Operations, and Colonel Michael Jansen, Australian Defense Attaché to Vietnam.
Vietnamese peacekeepers who are on duty at the UN Mission in South Sudan and the UN Interim Security Force for Abyei also attended the hybrid event.
The exchange was aimed at advancing gender awareness and supporting the UN Security Council’s agenda on women, peace, and security.
This event offered an opportunity for both sides to assess lessons learned from preparation and field experiences in UN peacekeeping missions, emphasizing women’s contributions to peace and security.
It also strengthened bilateral cooperation on UN peacekeeping and fostered networking among Vietnamese and Australian experts in this field.

Speaking at the event, Canh highlighted the significance of the session following a new peacekeeping partnership agreement signed by both nations in March this year, underlining their substantive, effective cooperation in UN peacekeeping.
This marks the fifth time that Vietnam and Australia have exchanged insights on women, peace, and security.
Both countries previously conducted similar exchanges in 2019, 2021, 2022, and 2023, successfully promoting women’s roles and effective participation in UN peacekeeping operations.
