Vietnam’s Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, his spouse, and a high-ranking delegation arrived in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on Saturday afternoon (local time), commencing a three-day visit to attend the G20 Summit and bilateral activities.

The trip is made at the invitation of President of Brazil and Chair of the 2024 G20 Summit Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva and his spouse.

This is the first time PM Chinh has attended a G20 Summit.

After a plane carrying the Vietnamese government leader landed at Galeao Air Force Base in Rio de Janeiro at 5:05 pm, he was welcomed by representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Brazil, Vietnamese Ambassador to Brazil Bui Van Nghi, and staff of the Vietnamese Embassy in Brazil.

The prime minister began his trip to Brazil by meeting with officials from the Vietnamese Embassy and members of the Vietnamese community in the South American country.

He was scheduled to participate in two summit sessions, where he would share Vietnam's insights and strategies on two key priorities: promoting sustainable development and green energy, and combating poverty.

These contributions are aimed at reinforcoing Vietnam’s role in addressing global challenges.

The summit will also feature meetings between the top Vietnamese official and multiple leaders of other countries.

Besides, PM Chinh will meet with the Brazilian president to review the implementation of high-ranking agreements signed during the former’s official visit to Brazil in September last year.

The upcoming meeting will provide an opportunity for the two leaders to discuss key future directions and effective measures to strengthen bilateral relations further.

As part of his visit to Brazil, PM Chinh will also partake in activities celebrating the 35th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries, including the inauguration of a memorial plaque honoring President Ho Chi Minh in Rio de Janeiro.
