Construction of the Laos-Vietnam Friendship Park, a symbol of the solidarity between the two countries, began in Vientiane on Friday.
Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and his Laotian counterpart Sonexay Siphandone attended the groundbreaking ceremony for the project as part of the former’s working trip to visit Laos and co-chair of the 47th meeting of the Vietnam-Laos Intergovernmental Committee.
The park will cover over 30,000 square meters in Vientiane’s Xaythany District, featuring a square and an artificial lake surrounded by green spaces.
At the square, there will be a cluster of reliefs depicting historical and cultural events of Laos, with the flags of Laos and Vietnam above.
Besides, statues of President Ho Chi Minh of Vietnam and Presidents Kaysone Phomvihane and Souphanouvong of Laos will be placed.
The turnkey project is a gift from the Party, State and people of Vietnam to their Laotian counterparts.
