Businesswoman Truong Thi Tuyet Nga, who won the title “Successful Lady” of Mrs. Vietnam Pageant 2009 and who finished second runner-up at Mrs. Global Vietnam contest held in the US last year was arrested for fraud on Saturday.

The 52-year-old beauty is currently general director of Vu Anh International Hospital.

In October, 2012 a woman in Ho Chi Minh City’s District 3 known as L. (real name withdrawn) accused Nga of cheating her off US$3.1 million over a land deal. Nga sold a three-hectare land plot in District 2′s Binh Khanh Ward to L.  who planned to invest $54 million to convert it into an apartment building and a shopping center.

One plot sold to many

L. paid Nga a deposit of $2 million and they agreed that within 18 months of the signing date, Nga was responsible for providing L. with a construction license of the trade center and carrying out procedures to legally transfer the land plot to L.

Under the signed contract, Nga was not allowed to sell, pawn, and mortgage the plot under any form without L.’s agreement. However, one day after Nga gave L. a copy of the title deed of a 16,000m2 plot (part of the three-hectare plot), Nga and her husband Vu Van Hai signed another contract to sell 2,900m2 of that said plot to another person named M. to pocket VND1.45 billion ($69,477).

The couple even authorized their Vu Lan Construction Company to use several already-sold land plots as collateral to get a loan of VND131 billion ($6.22 million) from the Trust Bank.

It did not stop there. The couple also started procedures to transfer some of the said plots to their second son Vu Hai Minh Anh.

In May, 2012, Nga and her husband filed for divorce to a court in Go Vap district but L. and M. requested the court not to divide their marital property.

In addition, Nga has been accused of misappropriating billions of dong from many other individuals and organizations.
