-- 76-year-old Gamesh Chandler Sharma, an Indian tourist to Nha Trang beachside city, died of a heart disease on July 9, said local authorities.

-- The People’s Committee of Da Nang central city has just announced that they will halt offering allowance of VND5 million (US$250) to each traffic policeman for their patrol assignments. The allowance initiated by Da Nang’s former leader Nguyen Ba Thanh is aimed at reducing corruption in local police forces.

-- Vietnamese fishermen on two fishing boats in Ly Son Island off Quang Ngai central province have accused a Chinese marine surveillance ship numbered 306 of beating them and taking away their machines and fuel worth VND600 million in total ($28,244).
