100kg boiler hurtles over 7 houses, kills Vietnamese-American

A boiler exploded in Bien Hoa town, Dong Nai southern province on Saturday, flew over seven houses and fell onto a 53-year-old Vietnamese-American man when he was eating at a restaurant nearby.

Eyewitnesses said due to the force of the blast, the boiler flew over seven houses before falling through the roof of An An restaurant down to the head of Nguyen Huu Nhan, who later died at hospital because of severe injuries.

According to Thanh Nien Newspaper, the victim was an American citizen of Vietnamese origin, who just came back to his home country one month ago.

Initial information found that at 8am that day when Pham Van Thang, 42, was making rice spring rolls, a 100kg boiler suddenly exploded, which violently shook trees, glass windows, and electric wires.

The cause of the explosion is being investigated.
