Many areas in Ho Chi Minh City will be submerged from the high tide on the Saigon River today, and the situation will continue until Monday, the Southern Hydro-Meteorological Station has warned.
The tide will reach 1.4 meters (alarm level 2) at 5 pm Saturday, October 5, and flood low-lying areas in various districts, including Districts 2 and 8 and Binh Thanh and Nha Be Districts, the station said.
At 5 am Sunday the tide will ink to 1.41 meters and will later increase gradually to 1,47 meters by 5:30 pm the same day.
On next Monday, October 7, the tide will recede to 1.4 meters by 6 am before rising again to reach 1.51 meter, 1 cm above alarm level 3, at 6 pm.
The tide will begin to recede on Tuesday, the station said.
Meanwhile, the rainy weather that is taking place in many southern provinces and cities, including HCMC, may worsen the inundation caused by the high tide, said the National Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting Center.
Yesterday the HCMC Steering Board for Flood and Storm Prevention and Control asked authorities of all districts with low-lying areas, to prepare plans to cope with the coming high tide.
