More than a hundred stones, which measure 1mm-1,5cm, were recently removed from a 36-year-old woman by doctors at a northern hospital.
The woman, who is a factory worker, had suffered a nagging pain in her right shoulder for several years.
However, she didn’t seek any proper medical attention until recently, when her persistent agony became intolerable. She went to Viet – Tiep Hospital in Hai Phong city, where X-ray images showed that her right shoulder joint was filled with 107 stones of small and medium sizes.
After a 2-hour endoscopic surgery, the stones were all removed.
According to the doctors, her stones had been formed due to tumors on the degenerative cartilage of her shoulder joint. After the surgery, the pain in the patient’s right shoulder will alleviate considerably, but she’s still on medication and constant close watch from nurses.
In Hanoi in September 2013, some 300 1-mm stones were also removed from the left shoulder of a man, who had also suffered constant pain and malfunction in his left shoulder and arm prior to his surgery.
