Politics -- A Vietnamese delegation led by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh attended the ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (AMM Retreatin Myanmar) on Friday. The event, with a theme of "Moving Forward in Unity to a Peaceful and Prosperous Community”, focused on efforts to speed up ASEAN Community building, develop a regional vision beyond 2015, strengthen external relations and talk on issues of global and regional concern.

Society -- Police in Dak Nong province have sent samples of grenade-shaped toys, with Chinese words printed on their packages, to the Criminal Science Institute in Ho Chi Minh City for testing after 37 students have been hospitalized for injuries they suffered when playing with the toy that are easy to explode when slapped. Such toys have also been found in Ho Chi Minh City and local authorities said they will take samples for testing. -- Twenty-five percent of a total of 466 producers of bottled drinking water in Ho Chi Minh City violated hygiene standards, said the Food Safety Department. Six of the violators have been suspended because of their serious violations.   -- The Ministry of Public Security has issued decision to prosecute thirteen members of two websites at vietexprt.info and hkvfamily.info that stole credit card information to appropriate money from cardholders' bank accounts.     -- The People’s Committee of Son Binh Commune in southern  Kien Giang province has prevented a wedding ceremony from taking place because the bride is less than 13 years old. The authorities said they will follow the case to continue to prevent the child marriage. -- A 3-month-old baby in Ho Chi Minh was hospitalized on Friday due to serious side effects after being vaccinated with the 5-in-1 vaccine Quinvaxem, which was allowed to be used again in October 2013 by the Health Ministry after five month of suspension following nine deaths post vaccination.  In Da Lat City, 16 children have developed side effects after vaccination from January 14-16, 2014 and one of them has died. -- The government on Friday decided to grant about 11,500 tons of rice as relief to poor farmers in six provinces including Ninh Binh, Thanh Hoa, Kon Tum, Son La, Dak Lak and Ha Nam. The government had earlier agreed to grant more than 12,300 tons to nine other provinces.Business -- The Vietnamese tourism sector expects to serve 8.3 million arrivals of foreign visitors and 37 million arrivals of domestic travelers in 2014, earning a total revenue of VND230 trillion (US$10.85 billion), said the Vietnam Tourism General Department. In 2013, the sector received over 7.57 million arrivals of foreign tourists and 35 million arrivals of local travelers, earning a total revenue of VND200 trillion. All these figures are higher than those in 2012.Sports -- Young Vietnamese tennis player Ly Hoang Nam  has earned a place in the quarterfinals of the Copa Gatorade 2014 in Venezuela after his two consecutive wins on January 17. With the victories, Nam is certain to increase his position in the upcoming International Tennis Federation (ITF)’s ratings.
