Ho Chi Minh City police are hunting two young men who opened fire on four Canadians, injuring a person of Vietnamese origin, on a street in the city’s downtown area on Wednesday night.

The shooting occurred at about 9:45 pm on Ton That Thiep Street, Ben Nghe Ward, District 1. The injured victim is Nguyen Ly Quoc, 36, a Vietnamese Canadian.

Quoc and his three friends – all of Canadian nationality – were walking down the street when two young men suddenly drove up on an SH scooter.

The man riding on the back of the scooter took out a gun-shaped object and fired one shot at the tourists. The shot hit Quoc on the thigh.

The strangers sped away immediately and Quoc was taken to Cho Ray Hospital for emergency treatment. Luckily, the man suffered only a minor soft tissue injury.

Quoc told local police that he and his three friends arrived in Vietnam for a vacation several days ago and they had no conflict with anyone here.

District 1 police officers are coordinating with their counterparts from the city police force to search for the attackers and investigate the case.
