As of 2016, male workers whose wives give birth will be entitled to at least five paid days off, according to a new regulation in the revised Law on Social Insurance. The information was issued by Tran Thi Thuy Nga, head of the Social Insurance Department under the Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs at a conference on the new contents of the above amended law, which was approved by the National Assembly on November 20, 2014.   Currently, no paid leave is granted to men whose wives give birth. Under the new rule, which will take effect on January 1, 2016, a paid leave of at least fives day is given to men whose wives give birth by normal delivery. Their leave term will be expanded to seven paid days in case delivery is performed by caesarean sections or in case of premature birth at less than 32 weeks, according to the regulation. As for men whose wives give birth to a twin, they are allowed to take 10 paid days off. In case their wives give birth to triplets or more, three more paid days off per baby is added, the rule says.
