The Vietnamese aviation watchdog has requested three local airlines to consider if they can share check-in counters at countrywide airports to facilitate passengers.
If national flag carrier Vietnam Airlines and two budget airlines VietJet Air and Jetstar Pacific can share counters, passengers will not have to queue in long lines to check in, the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV) said on Wednesday.
The CAAV made the request to the three airlines and the Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV), which manages all of the country’s airports, in a dispatch on Tuesday.
The ACV must collaborate with the three carriers on solutions for sharing the check-in counters and report to the CAAV, according to the document.
The shared check-in counters will help clear the long queues during peak hours, as well as optimize the use of infrastructure at the airports, the CAAV said.
The CAAV request was an answer to the Ministry of Transport’s call to improve the quality of service at the country’s airports, according to the aviation watchdog.
The aviation authority made the move days after the Ministry of Finance, which manages the General Department of Vietnam Customs, gave approval to a proposal by its transport counterpart to simplify the baggage scan procedure at Tan Son Nhat International Airport.
Starting November 15, passengers leaving Vietnam via the Ho Chi Minh City terminal will have their carry-on and checked luggage scanned simultaneously by airport security and customs officers, instead of completing two separate procedures.
The simplified procedure is meant to help passengers save time exiting the airport and avoid overload and delays during peak hours, according to the Ministry of Transport.
