Two people were wounded and five motorbikes damaged in an accident in a road tunnel caused by a bus in northern Vietnam on Saturday.
The bus No. 35, which plies the Khanh Du-Me Linh route, crashed into a crowd of motorcyclists stopping under Kim Lien Tunnel, which connects Xa Dan and Dai Co Viet Streets, at 2:00 pm that day.
Many people were pulling over to put on raincoats, others waiting for the heavy rain to cease, when the bus hit them, causing many motorbikes to be thrown to the front, according to a bystander.
Two people suffered minor injuries and were both taken to the hospital afterward, he said.
Five vehicles as well as the bus were damaged.
Police later arrived at the scene to control the traffic and carry out investigation.
Kim Lien Tunnel was cleared and back to normal operations at 4:00 pm the same day.
The accident happened due to the group of motorcyclists blocking the road as well as the wet and slippery surface under rainy conditions, making it impossible for the bus driver to prevent the collision, investigators said.
It is against the law to park vehicles under Kim Lien Tunnel; however, the place remains one of locals’ favorite spots to take shelter from heavy downpours.
