Vietnamese police are investigating a theft that was reported to have occurred at the residence of Regina T. Werner, an attaché at the German Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City, early Tuesday.
After getting up at 4:15 am that morning, Werner discovered signs of a break-in at her residence on Tran Nao Street in Binh An Ward of District 2, police officers said on Thursday, citing the victim’s report.
After examination, the 50-year-old attaché and her relatives found that many valuable items in their house had gone, police said.
The lost items, including a Macbook Pro laptop, an iPhone, three iPads, and a digital camera, among others, are valued at more than VND480 million (US$21,430) in total, according to the victim’s family.
After being notified of the purported theft, the district police have coordinated with the city’s social crime investigation police agency, the municipal People’s Procuracy and other relevant bodies to examine the scene and launch a probe.
The consular attaché’s family had forgotten to close their house door before they went to sleep the night before the reported theft, according to an initial source.
