Phu Quoc Express JSC, a Vietnamese operator of boat services, resumed the express boat service using the Thang Long boat on the Vung Tau-Con Dao route in Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province, southern Vietnam on Friday, after nearly five months of suspension.
The boat service was temporarily halted in September 2024 due to unfavorable weather conditions and the need for operational adjustments.
With improved weather and safer sailing conditions, Phu Quoc Express has now restarted the service, ensuring smooth connectivity between Vung Tau City and the island of Con Dao.
During the suspension period, the Thang Long boat underwent routine maintenance and machinery checks while being docked at Vung Tau port.
Before resuming service, the boat was sent to a shipyard in Can Tho City in Vietnam’s Mekong Delta for a comprehensive safety inspection to ensure compliance with all safety regulations.
On its first day back in service, nearly 500 passengers boarded the boat to Con Dao, including many tourists who had already planned their trips in advance.
The Vung Tau-Con Dao route spans approximately 185 kilometers (97 nautical miles), with each trip taking about three hours and 30 minutes.
The express boat now operates three round trips per week, with departures from Vung Tau at 7:30 am on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, while return trips from Con Dao depart at 1:00 pm on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays.
Measuring 77 meters in length, 9.5 meters in width, and standing four decks high, the Thang Long boat is one of the largest express passenger vessels in Vietnam, with a capacity of over 1,000 passengers.
