A number of roads in the downtown area of central Da Nang City will be modified to facilitate the upcoming APEC Economic Leaders’ Week, according to a dispatch by the city’s administration.

Running November 6-11 in Da Nang, the Economic Leaders’ Week is the culmination of Vietnam’s year-long hosting of a series of meetings of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC), a forum for 21 Pacific Rim countries that promotes free trade throughout the Asia-Pacific region.

To improve traffic safety ahead of and during the event, tipper trucks will not be allowed on any of the city’s roads other than the Hai Van Tunnel – Tuy Loan route, some sections of National Highway 14B, and the Da Nang – Quang Ngai Expressway between November 3 and 12.

Trucks, passenger buses of 16 or more seats, sanitation vehicles and garbage trucks will be banned from entering downtown streets and bridges between 5:00 am and 11:00 pm from November 5 to 12.

The streets affected are Hoang Sa, Vo Nguyen Giap, Truong Sa, Vo Van Kiet, Nguyen Van Thoai, Ho Xuan Huong, Nguyen Duc Thuan, Minh Mang, An Nong, Nam Ky Khoi Nghia, 3 Thang 2, Bach Dang, Tran Phu, 2 Thang 9, Cach Mang Thang 8, Ham Nghi, Le Dinh Ly, Nguyen Tri Phuong, Nguyen Huu Tho, Trung Nu Vuong, Nguyen Van Linh, Duy Tan and Tran Thi Ly.

The same ban will also be imposed on Dragon Bridge, Tran Thi Ly Bridge and Tien Son Bridge.

On November 10 and 11 when APEC leaders, including U.S. President Donald Trump, are expected to arrive in Da Nang for a senior meeting, the ban will be extended to include Le Van Hien, Ngu Hanh Son, Ngo Quyen and Yet Kieu Streets.

Between November 5 and 12, all vehicles will not be allowed to stop or park on Hoang Sa, Vo Nguyen Giap, Truong Sa, Vo Van Kiet, Nguyen Van Thoai, Bach Dang, Tran Phu, 2 Thang 9, Cach Mang Thang 8, Nguyen Van Linh, Duy Tan and Tran Thi Ly.

The iconic water-and-fire show, held daily on Dragon Bridge, will not be performed on the weekend when the leaders' meeting falls on, while the Han River Bridge will not rotate during the same period either.

Additionally, cruise ships on the Han River will have their operations suspended between November 9 and 11.

According to the APEC Secretariat, at least 18 leaders of the group’s member economies have confirmed their attendance at the 25th edition of the APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting in Da Nang.

U.S. President Donald Trump, Russian President Vladimir Putin, and Chinese President Xi Jinping are all expected to be present.

The combined number of delegates and international reporters is estimated to number 10,000, making this year’s APEC summit one of the biggest ever in terms of participation.

It marks the second time Vietnam has played host to the event since its entrance in 1998, having hosted it previously in 2006.

Nearly 800 police officers from all provinces and cities across Vietnam will be mobilized to ensure traffic safety and escort delegates during the week.
