An elderly woman and her grandson have been found dead behind closed doors in a rented room in Dong Nai Province, local police said on Wednesday.

The victims are Bui Thi Huong, 48, and Tran Quoc Trung, 7, both living in Dinh Quan District, Dong Nai, a neighboring region to the east of Ho Chi Minh City.

According to preliminary investigation results, her daughter, Tran Thi Kim Trang, a 26-year-old factory worker, who has lived with the victims, recognized that her room’s door had been locked from the outside, after returning from work on Tuesday night.

Having searched for the cause for a while, she spotted ominous specks of blood on the door, and shouted for help.

When neighbors broke in, they saw her mother and child lying dead in the bathroom.

Police have collected evidence for their investigation and questioned relevant people.

The victims suffered multiple hits by a hard object on their heads and showed cuts on their necks, according initial police information.

A suspect identified is a man who lives in the same room row with Trang and has showed his love for her, upon which her mother frowned.
