Baby born with knife wound delivered safe and sound in Vietnam

Baby born with knife wound delivered safe and sound in Vietnam

Doctors at a Vietnamese hospital successfully delivered a baby after its paternal grandmother managed to slice open the unborn child’s head while it was still in its mother’s womb.

The general hospital in Bao Thang District, Lao Cai, a border province of northern Vietnam, admitted a local 21-year-old expectant mother at around 4:00 am on March 2.

At the time, the mother had already gone into labor and her baby’s head was already peeking out of her vulva.

The birth procedure became even more complicated when doctors were told the child’s grandmother believed putting a knife inside the mother’s sexual organ would help ease her labor.

Fortunately, doctors were able to deliver a healthy baby with no signs of breathing problems or external abnormalities, save for several scratches and a seven by four centimeter knife wound atop the baby’s head.

The wound was immediately stitched and by Wednesday the hospital had given approval for the infant to be sent home with its mother.
