A hospital in the central city of Da Nang is giving part of its space to outdoor games for in-patients in an effort to help quicken their recovery through physical movement.
Every weekend morning, many patients who are receiving physical therapy at the Da Nang Traditional Medicine Hospital leave their sickbeds and gather on the campus, some carrying tools that they rely on during treatment
The patients will then participate in playful activities that involve the movements of their hands and legs, such as moving a plastic ball with a broom and throwing a ball, with music in the background.
Nurses were seen giving support to patients too frail to walk on their own during the process.
“The actions look exceedingly simply but prove really difficult for people with health problems,” said Truong Hai, a 60-year-old patient.
“Doing these activities collectively gives me the joy of a child.”
The outdoor games serve to motivate patients to increase their level of bodily activity outside the room and yield a greater understanding between nurses, patients, and family members who are taking care of them.
