The officers were on a patrol at around 4:30 pm on Monday and noticed a suspicious man who had just crossed the border.
They stopped the man for an inspection, not knowing that he was accompanied by a group of armed men. These men then opened fire on the officers from a distance, wounding all the three.
As they were brought to the hospital for emergency treatment, Nhat succumbed to his wounds midway.

The suspects were able to flee to the other side of the border, leaving behind 12,000 pills of synthetic drugs.
The body of Major Nhat was brought back to his home in Bat Mot Commune to prepare for his funeral.
