Thousands of civil and military personnel were mobilized for a national-level fire drill and rescue exercise in the central Vietnamese city of Da Nang on Wednesday morning.

The fire drill was organized by the Ministry of Public Security and the People’s Committee of Da Nang at a group of adjacent buildings in Son Tra District.

The buildings used for the exercise included the Vinpearl Condotel Riverfront Da Nang, a nearby Vincom shopping mall, and the Azura apartment complex.

The hypothetical situation for the drill was that a fire broke out on the third floor of the Vinpearl Condotel Riverfront Da Nang, damaging the building’s technical system located on the same floor and collapsing several areas on the floor below.

Around 300 ‘customers’ were ‘trapped’ on the third floor due to smoke and dust, while people in the two next-door buildings also had to be evacuated.

Nearly 1,000 civil and military personnel, including the Vietnamese Air Force, were mobilized from Da Nang and neighboring Quang Nam and Thua Thien-Hue Provinces to take part in the massive drill.

A hundred vehicles including fire trucks, ambulances, a US$1 million Rosenbauer Panther fire engine, and helicopters were also employed in the exercise.

Below are some photos of the fire drill.
