— Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc and his Russian counterpart Mikhail Mishustin looked into the two countries’ cooperation amid the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic during their phone talks on Tuesday.

— Vietnam pays attention to and has been keeping a close watch on the complex situation in some ASEAN countries’ waters, the Vietnamese foreign ministry’s spokesperson Le Thi Thu Hang told reporters on Tuesday.

— Vietnam’s Information and Communications Minister Nguyen Manh Hung, who also chairs the Vietnam-India Friendship Association, presented 100,000 cloth face masks to Indian Ambassador to Vietnam Pranay Verma on Tuesday.

Society

— Vietnam expects to release 20 COVID-19 patients from the hospital on Wednesday as the national tally has remained unchanged at 268 for six consecutive days, with 216 patients having recovered to date.

— Ho Chi Minh City is prepared to welcome home thousands of citizens from abroad in the upcoming period when the country enters the next phase in its COVID-19 fight, said Nguyen Trung Hoa, director of the Go Vap District Medical Center.

— Four COVID-19 checkpoints in a village in Binh Nghia Commune, Binh Luc District, located in the northern province of Ha Nam, where patient No. 252 resides, were officially removed on Tuesday afternoon after a 14-day lockdown.

— Da Nang chairman Huynh Duc Tho has said the city would continue to ban all crowded religious, cultural and sports events, as well as beach-going and public transportation, after April 30 despite gradually relaxing social distancing measures in the central city.

Business

— Vietnam had shipped more than 68,000 metric tons of rice abroad as of Tuesday evening, part of the export quota of 400,000 metric tons for April, the General Department of Customs reported on its website.

— The Civil Aviation Administration of Vietnam has proposed that the Ministry of Transport allow the increase of Ho Chi Minh City-Hanoi services from six to 20 flights per day and reopen other domestic flight routes from Thursday, after the end of the prolonged social distancing period in 28 provinces and cities.

World News

— Irish police said Ronan Hughes, 40, who had been arrested in the country for his accused connection with the death of 39 Vietnamese nationals in a refrigerated lorry near London in October 2019, appeared at Dublin's High Court for his trial on Tuesday. He faces extradition proceedings over the alleged manslaughter, Reuters reported.

— Over 2.55 million people have caught COVID-19 while more than 177,400 have been killed by the disease globally as of Wednesday morning, according to statistics. About 690,000 have recovered.
