Police in northern Vietnam have arrested a suspect for shooting a man who is a notorious gangster himself in a tea shop in broad daylight in the middle of this month.
Officers in Hai Phong said on Monday they had captured Vu Quoc Long, a 49-year-old local, who allegedly shot To Thang Loi, 50, on June 14.
Long was apprehended when he was holed up in Hanoi.
Hai Phong police escorted him to a chrysanthemum tea shop at 15-17 Phan Boi Chau Street in Quang Trung District for crime scene reconstruction on Monday.
Long traveled in a car carrying a fake license plate to the tea shop in Hai Phong, according to the crime scene reconstruction.
He shot Loi, who was drinking tea at the place, with a homemade airgun from the car and swiftly fled the scene.
The tea shop was crowded with customers then.
Loi was badly injured and taken to the 108 Military Central Hospital in Hanoi.
The man survived the wound and is in stable health now.
Hai Phong police probed the shooting and found Long to be the main suspect.
Loi has made a name for himself among the gangsters in Hai Phong, according to a probe by Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper.
In 2008, he was a victim of an acid attack, after which he had to go overseas for a surgery.
