A Vietnam court on Tuesday condemned a man to death after he murdered his own mother, grandmother, and aunt last year, thinking they were ‘robots.’
The Ho Chi Minh City People’s Court handed down the capital punishment on Truong Tin, 30, who lives in Binh Tan District on Tuesday morning.
Tin was a drug addict and has been rehabilitated for two times, according to court documents.
He took drugs before going to work at a construction site at 6:00 pm on May 2, 2019.
He returned home at 10:00 pm and made a noise so his mother, Nguyen Thi Ngoc Thuy, scolded him.
The two had a row when Tin’s aunt, Nguyen Thi Ngoc Phung, who lives in the same house as him, came to rebuke the man.
Infuriated, Tin broke many objects in the house and then took drugs again.
His father, Truong Van Hanh, reported to police in Binh Tri Dong Ward, Binh Tan District after seeing Tin make a mess.
Tin rushed to the kitchen to take two knives and went upstairs when high on drugs.
Thuy held him back when seeing the man about to open the door of Phung’s room.
He broke out of Thuy’s arms and repeatedly slashed Nguyen Thi Ngoc Kieu, another aunt, who was standing in front of him to death.
Thuy shouted, “It’s mom, Tin!”, before he fatally stabbed her with both knives in hand. The intoxicated man went on to kill his grandmother, Le Thi Dieu, on the spot.
Tin then got back to the construction site and threw the knives there before being arrested when he was drinking coffee with his friends.
Tin pleaded guilty at the Ho Chi Minh City court.
He killed the victims because he was hallucinated, thinking they were ‘robots’ which were going to harm him, Tin said at his trial.
