Local people in the central Vietnamese province of Thua Thien-Hue on Friday suffered the fourth flood within only eight days due to torrential downpours.

It rained heavily over a large area in Thua Thien-Hue on Friday. 

Rising water on Huong, O Lau and Bo Rivers submerged many streets connecting villages and communes in Quang Dien and Phong Dien Districts, notably from the late afternoon.

Police officers had to erect barriers to block several streets in Quang An, Quang Phuoc, and Quang Thanh Communes in Quang Dien District, and Phong Binh and Phong Chuong Communes in Phong Dien District.

On Friday evening, people in Phong Dien’s Phong Chuong, Phong Hoa, and Phong Binh Communes had to be evacuated.

Meanwhile, local residents in Phong Hien and Phong An Communes in the same district queued to hoard food and supplies.

“I hope that this flooding will not be too serious as we’ve already suffered from the previous ones," said Le Thi My, a local woman in Phong Hien Commune. 

"Furniture and rice are all wet.

"Every house was damaged, books and clothes were also wet.”
