Vietnam documented one imported case of novel coronavirus (COVID-19) disease, the 1,216th infection in the country, as of 6:00 am on Tuesday, according to the Ministry of Health.

The country’s latest patient is a 41-year-old Vietnamese woman returning from Angola on October 19.

Her flight VN8 landed at Van Don International Airport in northern Quang Ninh Province. She was quarantined in northern Bac Ninh Province.

Her third test came positive for the novel coronavirus on Monday, over 20 days after her return.

At present, she is receiving treatment at Bac Ninh General Hospital.

Earlier, 17 other passengers on the same flight were also found to contract the novel coronavirus, 11 of whom are being treated in northern Bac Giang Province while six others are receiving treatment in Bac Ninh.

Vietnam has reported 1,216 COVID-19 infections so far.

Of the total, 691 were infected with the virus domestically, including 551 linked to the central city of Da Nang since the latest wave began there on July 25, according to the National Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control.

As many as 1,087 patients have recovered and been released from hospitals and 35 have died from complications related to the disease.

Most of the fatalities were the elderly with serious underlying health conditions.
